Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Monghoul ("the App"), a desktop MongoDB GUI client developed by Bohdan Kontsedal ("we", "us", "our"). By installing or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. License Grant

1.1 Free Tier

We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on any number of devices for personal or commercial purposes, subject to the feature and capacity limits of the Free tier.

1.2 Free Trial

We offer a one-time 14-day free trial of the Pro tier. The trial:

  • Unlocks all Pro features for the trial duration, with no payment required
  • Is limited to one trial per device (identified by an anonymous device fingerprint)
  • Cannot be restarted, extended, or transferred to another device
  • Automatically expires after 14 days, reverting the App to the Free tier

1.3 Pro Tier

Upon purchasing a Pro license, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use all features of the App according to the plan you purchased:

  • Monthly / Annual subscription — valid for the duration of your active subscription, includes all updates
  • Lifetime license — valid indefinitely for the version purchased, includes 2 years of updates from the date of purchase

Pro licenses may be activated on up to 3 devices simultaneously. You may deactivate a license on one device and activate it on another.

1.4 Restrictions

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, except as permitted by applicable law
  • Redistribute, sublicense, rent, or lease the App
  • Remove or alter proprietary notices or labels
  • Use the App to develop a competing product
  • Share, transfer, or resell license keys
  • Circumvent license validation or feature restrictions

2. Payments and Subscriptions

2.1 Merchant of Record

All payments are processed by PayPro Global (PayPro Global, Inc.), which acts as our Merchant of Record. When you make a purchase, you are buying from PayPro Global, and their terms apply to the transaction.

2.2 Pricing

Current pricing is listed within the App. Prices may change, but changes do not affect active subscriptions or lifetime licenses already purchased.

2.3 Subscriptions

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually)
  • You may cancel at any time through the PayPro Global customer portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
  • No partial refunds are issued for unused portions of a billing period

2.4 Refunds

You may request a full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Refund requests after 14 days are considered on a case-by-case basis. All refunds are processed by PayPro Global in accordance with applicable consumer protection laws. To request a refund, contact PayPro Global support or email us at contact@monghoul.com.

2.5 Lifetime Licenses

Lifetime licenses provide perpetual access to the Pro tier with 2 years of updates from the date of purchase. After the update period:

  • The App continues to work indefinitely with all Pro features
  • You keep the last version released within your update period
  • New versions require purchasing an update renewal

"Lifetime" refers to the perpetual right to use the version you have, not a guarantee of unlimited future updates. If we discontinue the App, the last released version will continue to function.

3. Free Tier Limitations

The Free tier includes usage limits on connections, tabs, favorites, pinned collections, and certain features. These limits are enforced both in the user interface and on the backend. Current limits are documented within the App's License modal.

4. Intellectual Property

The App, including its code, design, documentation, and branding, is the intellectual property of Bohdan Kontsedal. This license does not transfer any ownership rights.

Open-source libraries used in the App retain their respective licenses.

5. Your Data

5.1 Local Data

All your data (connections, queries, results, configurations) is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to your data and are not responsible for data loss due to hardware failure, accidental deletion, or other local events.

5.2 MongoDB Connections

The App connects to MongoDB instances that you configure. You are responsible for:

  • The security of your connection credentials
  • Compliance with the terms of service of your MongoDB provider
  • Any consequences of queries executed through the App

5.3 MCP Server

The App includes an optional MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes MongoDB tools to AI assistants. When enabled, it runs locally on your device. You are responsible for securing the MCP server token and controlling which AI clients have access.

6. Telemetry

The App collects anonymous usage analytics by default to improve the product. No personally identifiable information is collected. You can opt out at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

  • The App will be error-free or uninterrupted
  • Query results will be accurate or complete
  • The App will be compatible with all MongoDB versions or configurations
  • Data will not be lost or corrupted

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

9. Write Protection Disclaimer

The App includes optional write protection features to help prevent accidental destructive operations. These features are provided as a convenience and are not a guarantee against data loss. You are solely responsible for the queries you execute and should maintain appropriate backups of your data.

10. Auto-Updates

The App may automatically check for and download updates. Updates may include bug fixes, feature changes, and security patches. By using the App, you consent to receiving automatic updates.

11. Termination

  • You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it
  • We may terminate or suspend your license if you violate these Terms
  • Upon termination, your right to use Pro features ceases, but your locally stored data remains on your device

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through the App or our website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ukraine. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ukraine, except where mandatory consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction require otherwise.

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
